Joe Bob Briggs is offering two new drive-in specials this October.
Horror fans may have to wait a while for the next season of The last drive-in on Shudder, but host Joe Bob Briggs is bringing back the antics for not one, but two all-new specials over the next few weeks. Shudder and AMC announced the next two Last drive-in special episodes, one of which will air on linear cable and feature an appearance by a slasher legend.
The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs will broadcast two special programs in October. The first will be part of AMC’s annual Fearfest marathon, airing Wednesday, October 9. This first special focuses on Friday the 13th franchise, with Briggs presenting a double feature from the 1980s Friday the 13th and the years 1981 Friday the 13th Part 2. The second of the specials is called Joe Bob’s Beezlebub Party and will stream live on Shudder and AMC+ on Friday, October 25. The films for this special episode have not been announced and likely will not be announced until after its live broadcast.
In addition to airing live during AMC’s Fearfest, this first Joe Bob special is a big deal because it features the one and only Adrienne King as a special guest. King was the first Final Girl of the Friday the 13th franchise, playing Alice in the first film and surviving a face-to-face encounter with the real killer, Pamela Vorhees. She reprized her role in Part 2appearing in the film’s opening scene before being killed by the adult Jason Vorhees.
THE Friday the 13th Last Drive-In the special will begin at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Segments with Briggs, including those where King appears as a guest, will be added to Shudder and AMC+ for on-demand viewing on October 13.
The news about these new specials follows the renewal of Shudder and AMC. The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a sixth season. The announcement of the renewal was made by Briggs himself, the day before the six “Nightmareathon” films were filmed in late August.
“Hey my name is Joe Bob Briggs and this is the land of Deliverance,” Briggs said in his social media post at the time. “We’re in the woods preparing for tomorrow’s Nightmareathon and we just learned that The Last Drive-In has been renewed for a seventh season. That means we’ll continue to do deep dives for another year with great movies, some not so great movies and some awful movies and lots of hijinks and shenanigans so thanks for supporting us and join us tomorrow night for the Nightmarathon.
The Nightmareathon is available to stream on Shudder, along with other past seasons and specials from The last drive-in.
